Breaking news: Star citizen concierge+ backer confirms Derek Smart was right
Actually really intresting video, Camural has always been pretty open about criticizing CIG but I’ve never a creator so invested in SC’s success be quite this disillusioned before. Also very happy that the legacy of uncle Derek still lives on in backers minds!
Bonus pic:
I think is likely to happen, funding will drop for a few months and CIG will finally relent and remove Master Modes (CIGs latest flight model that is hated by Citizens) and this will be seen as CIG listening to the community and a flood of sales will return.
Progress by removing features!
Yeah, this feels like a pretty big shift in tone for me. Criticizing SC for being poorly managed is one thing, but straight up saying that project is unlikely to succeed and not worth spending money on is a bit of a jump.
I backed the game when I was 40, I’m 52 years old now. I remember logging in and just sitting in a ship that couldn’t do anything and thinking “this is going to be so cool when it’s finished.” The big joke back in the day was “5 more years!“… Yet the years have gone by, and the game seems just as broken as it was when we first got to jump in our ships and screw around at Port Olisar an laugh at all the bugs… we understood that there would be bugs - but that was 12 years ago and we still have game breaking bugs. I was so enthusiastic about Star Citizen I even gifted a starter package to a few of my friends - help the cause, right? They tested it and never came back.
After taking a break from the game for a while (since 3.18), when 4.0 came out I was very interested in testing out the Pyro system, and to see the progress on playability. I logged in and notice the game was running very smoothly, I’d click on an elevator button and it worked! Then came the bugs. Requesting my ship in the hanger, ship comes up, then flips upside down, glitches through the floor.
Eventually I got to fly my ship, got to the Pyro Gateway - got my jump drive, here we go - let’s go check out Pyro. Nope. My ship wouldn’t acknowledge the wormhole so I went back to the station, stored it and checked to make sure the jump drive was installed. It was. I uninstalled it, saved it, then reinstalled it. Went to the wormhole, nothing. So can you imagine how frustrating this is to someone who has wanted this game for 12 years? Curse words were definitely flying way more than any of my ships. Eventually I did get to Pyro and went to check out Bloom. What a beautiful planet! I saw a town or city so I headed for it and started to land. I was immediately lit up by other players and destroyed. I respawned back on New Babbage. I took a deep breath and exited the game.
I don’t see this getting any better. When Global Chat works, people are expressing their disappointment over and over - “This thing won’t be ready for another 5 years….” and there it was, full circle, the joke we all started out with was still a thing. “Just 5 more years.” In 5 years I’ll be 57. I want to play a stable version of this game before I’m NOT able to play it. That’s ALL any of us are asking… but with all of the bugs - CIG, you’re turning a lot of people away. So many people are turning away out of frustration and never coming back… and that’s not a good thing. Give us something playable, please? I could see 1 or 2 errors or glitches - that would be fine, but what’s happening now is game breaking and a lot of people are fed up. I know I am.
Tony Z retired
reddit has realized that tony z is gone.
I guess quantum or whatever is done and shipped.
He did a great job on the subsumption system which is why the AI is so good, and the Quanta economic simulation is just part of why the trade and resource exchange gameplay loops of star citizen are head and shoulders above anything else.
Oh wait, sorry that was a daydream I had, we won’t be getting NPC AI until maybe after launch the bartenders are still world class dolts, the general NPCs still can’t resist furniture vaulting even after meshing is in, and if Quanta is active it’s subtle to the point of not being noticable.
Beet Wagon
its genuinely so insane to go to /r/starcitizen and see the same guys who were arguing with me 7+ years ago just… still going.

I just deleted a brutal takedown. As I sat back and reviewed my post, something incredible became plainly obvious. Tony Z successfully gaslit the king of vaporware. Not just for a little while or a couple years, he basically collected free money the entire time right under Chris’ nose and got the corner office. I don’t like it, but you gotta hand it to him; he played corporate survival mode on the hardest difficulty, delivered basically nothing and won anyways.
Probably make-that-pixel-green Chris was too busy micromanaging people who were endlessly producing mess hall NPC animations to really care about what Tony was actually doing.
my favorite part of the star citizen saga is when people who know what they’re talking about debunk and disprove all the future tech CIG claims to be creating
There is some random activity today, they filed an allotment of shares that took place on 15th January 2025. It’s about 2% of the outstanding shares for a total of £20.20 which is a premium over their par value of £2.48.
There is also an obligatory mistake in their filing, which is impressive since there is only one number to calculate. The number of existing shares, plus the number of issued shares should give the new total of shares. They forgot the step of adding on the newly issued shares, so the total is the old one from before the issue of shares, which is the sole purpose of the form they filed. So. Good job.
If the Calders cash out and Chris can’t afford to pay them, that’s actually the perfect excuse for him to exit stage left (and spin up a new Kickstarter).
Just a NPC recognizing that some random player had already played SQ42, I wouldn’t think that would be terribly difficult to do, if all it meant is they had an extra line of dialogue if they had.
They’ll just have the advanced sentient bartender AI say to every person in line “Ah, I’ve heard about you. You’re the hero who blew up the Death Star.” pours coffee onto the floor
He’s not waving his arms like Croberts, of course it’s not working
I tried to “play” SC a couple weeks ago and first died from thirst/starvation because it dosen’t explain anywhere how to open your helmet, then I couldn’t figure out what elevator the game wanted me to use because the waypoint was buried in the geometry. I then decided to play Elite instead and had way more fun.
Spending $400 on space ship not-Legos that look like they are from a Netflix sci-fi show that only got 1 season
Ship Lego Kickstarter
StarCitizen Brick Toy/Model
Goal: Create highly detailed original brick-built models of Star Citizen ships for fans to enjoy offline
Oh good more disposal crap to buy to sit on the desk of your space ship command station while waiting for the game to be made !
Also funny the person mentions that CIG approved using their models likeness as long as it’s for the backers to enjoy and not for profit
Excuse me a $25k kickstarter is the definition of profit no ?
And he had to fly himself out to Manchester to sign their nda lol
Citizens really are the easiest people to con
ok they have already had pledges for $36,000.
WHO ARE THESE IDIOTS
sorry for yelling
but who are these morons throwing absolute insane amounts of money at space ship legos
40 months later, backers receive a jpeg of the first not-LEGO model.

smdh
It is the year 2035.
The lego kickstarter value stands at $730m, with the first kit due in under a year.
It is the year 2038.
The lego kickstarter has its own in-house law firm. The first kit is due “within months”. Total value stands at $1,170m.
It is the year 2042.
The lego kickstarter purchases Lego Corporation. And Boeing. New kits for “Classic Pan-Am 747-400” and “Legoland Space” are offered as stretch goals, delaying previously promised kit releases.
Lead Server Engineer Jason Ely was recently let go. It seems like they are winding down development of everything but ships, and will just try to maintain at the current level for as long as possible.
I work (well okay I’m currently unemployed like half the industry) in games, so sometimes I see things on LinkedIn and I was wondering if I should buy an Idris after seeing that CIGs Lead Server Engineer is looking a new job.
I have been following this thread since at least 2018? I forget, reading about CIG helped me get through a pretty awful death march at a past job! Also speaking of past jobs, I actually once interviewed at CIG for a job… a decade ago. As rough as things have been for me at times, I am still grateful to have dodged that bullet.
Knowing myself I would not have lasted long enough. I would’ve quit or been fired within a year. It’s funny, I used to go to the local developer drink meetups and you’d almost never run into someone who worked for CIG more than once, with like two exceptions I can recall and one of those two eventually got a job at Naughty Dog which in a lot of ways is kind of a lateral move these days…
There was one of these meetups either the same day or same week as a mass firing/quitting, I think what is referred to as Sandy Gate. It might be the only time I’ve seen so many people in the industry be happy to not have jobs.
Pantheon Drama Update
lol Pantheon’s tech director was spawning rare mobs for his guild
it doesn’t really matter because it’s an alpha where everything is wiped, but the broke brain people who are willing to play a worse version of EQ in 2025 are probably going to lose their minds over this
Ever since this came to light by Discord user and former Subterfuge member Flexler, Visionary Realms has been in full on damage control, with several Discord forum threads being shut down by the company regarding the issue.
The outrage is being felt throughout the community, with several high profile community members and guilds considering withdrawing their support from the indie MMO.
A new rule has been added to the discord that you are not allowed to discuss any actions taken by a mod or GM, or even discuss a hypothetical action that may be taken in the future under a hypothetical rule set that you are trying to describe.
There’s another big drama happening with the GMs favoring that one special guild and apparently inventing rules about camp stealing when it favors them, or something
